The plot of the story is that Rafe Khatchadorian, a sixth grader at Hills Village Middle School, is trying to break every single school rule in the rule book. It is a game his imaginary brother Leo told him to play. Rafe would get points for every school rule he broke and would lose a life if he did anything whimpy. He had 3 lives.
He lost his first life when ran away from Miller instead of staying fight. Leo said it was because he wussed out. He lost his second life when the bully Miller stole his notebook from him and he didn't try to get it back. He lost his last life by breaking the "no hurt" rule when he got Jeanne in trouble when she came into the boys bathroom to talk to him when he was in there crying.
One night he woke up at midnight and went to the back wall of the school. His imaginary brother, Leo, told him even though he ran out of lives, to keep playing in the game. So Rafe got some coloring utensils, and drew a huge mural on the back school wall. He got expelled, and was sent to a different school.
